Rape is a loaded term. What comes to mind is a vile, indefensible act, and we can’t help but think that the human who committed the heinous offense must also be a depraved soul, one who should be kept away from society.
So why then do some convicted rapists receive 40 years in jail while most others get a far shorter amount? It’s complicated.
